[14/365] Fall is in the Air

D14

I’m back home and fall is everywhere! Leaves are changing colours, there’s a chill in the air, even the skies are darkening. Even though it feels so short, fall is my favourite season. For that reason, this week’s photos will be dedicated to Autumn.

“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.”
-Stanley Horowitz

[12/365] Americana

Walking through the High Line you can’t help but notice the pieces of Americana that dot these old neighbourhoods. The Meatpacking District and Chelsea are two places currently going through a wave of urban renewal. Once the hub of manufacturing and industry, The Meat Packing District started declining in the 1960s and became known for drugs and prostitution. In the late 1990s the revitalization of the area started with the introduction of high end restaurants, boutiques and housing attracting young professionals. The High Line itself is the center piece of this resurgence. It is a mile long park built on an abandoned elevated railroad winding through the heart of The Meat Packing District. It is an incredibly creative idea for recycling old railroad tracks.

With its painted ceilings, wooden shelves and stone columns – The New York Public Library is by far the prettiest library I’ve come across.

We spent the day walking through the natural oasis of Central Park. I love that so much green space is tucked in the middle of the concrete jungle of skyscrapers that is Manhattan.

At night we went to the top of the Rockefeller center for a bird’s eye view of the big city and it’s bright lights. We continued down past Radio City Music Hall and ended the night exploring the neon streets.

[8/365] Times Square

D8

Hello NYC, it’s been too long.

This is the first time I’ve come here as an adult – which means that it’ll be a week filled with shopping, Broadway plays and late night eats. I can’t think of a better way to start the week off than a walk through the bright lights of Times Square. I love that this picture simultaneously captures Times Square, Broadway and …. Sean Jean.

[5/365] The small things

‘Men do change, and change comes like a little wind that ruffles the curtains at dawn, and it comes like a stealthy perfume of wildflowers hidden in the grass.’
- John Steinbeck

Sometimes change comes in leaps and bounds, most of the time it is slow and steady. It goes unnoticed until we have the time to look back and see that we are no longer who we used to be.
